My name is Ana and I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Einstein Center Population Diversity and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. I received my PhD from the University of St Andrews and the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in 2024, where my thesis focused on understanding macro- and micro-level inequalities in multimorbid life expectancy and disease accumulation across several countries (South Africa, Costa Rica, Mexico, South Korea, and the United States).
My research largely focuses on health expectancies, including healthy working life expectancy, and tries to understand what factors contribute to the inequalities we observe in these metrics. I am particularly interested the role of social and institutional factors in driving these inequalities, and how this differs across countries. I am also interested in health, socioeconomic, and mortality inequalities more generally (e.g., hearing loss, wealth, and mortality of children born to immigrant parents).
My work has been published in Population Studies, The Journals of Gerontology: Series B, The Lancet Regional Health – Europe, and BMJ Global Health, among others.
